Surfpop Surf School
Muizenberg’s first surf school with a purpose!
Whether you are learning to surf for the first time or looking to level up your skills, you have come to the right place. We welcome all ages and make every lesson fun — even for the smallest groms, as long as they are water safe. Our dedicated team of ISA/SSA-qualified instructors are experienced in teaching both children and adults, creating an encouraging environment for every learner. With a maximum of three students per coach, you receive personal attention that fast-tracks your progress in the water.
At Surfpop Surf School, every wave makes a difference. We donate 15% of every lesson fee to the Surfpop Foundation — our non-profit organisation empowering children from township communities through surfing, education, life coaching, and nutrition. This means that when you book a lesson, a Surfpop child gets to join a Surfpop surf session too. And there’s even more impact behind the scenes: the surf school creates meaningful job opportunities for Surfpop graduates who are building careers in the surf industry.

Our Offering
Individual surf lesson
1.5 hours | R 500
The surf lesson is split into theory and practice. Each lesson is tailored to your surfing level. Complete beginners will spend a bit more time on the beach, getting valuable information about the surf break, safety, the equipment and technique. Are you already a surfer and want to improve your skills? Not to worry, we have got you covered! We can help take your surfing to the next level.
Group surf lesson
1.5 hours | R400 (2 people) | R350 (3 people) | R300 (4-6 people)
Maximum 3 people per one surf instructor
To ensure a safe and good quality lesson, we will never have more than three people per surf instructor. The group surf lesson is split into theory and practice. Each lesson is tailored to the surfing level of the participants. Complete beginners will spend a bit more time on the beach, getting valuable information about the surf break, safety, the equipment and technique. Are you already surfers and want to improve your skills? Not to worry, we have got you covered! We can help take your surfing to the next level.
Weekly group surf lessons for kids
1.5 hours | R250 (School term package) | R275 (Monthly package)
Surfpop believes in the power of surfing to boost the health, happiness and confidence of children, so we are excited to offer special packages for your child! Seeing that we have lots of experience teaching the Surfpop children how to surf and nurture a deep love for the ocean, we know exactly how to make lessons for children fun, while making them feel safe at all times. We start each lesson on the beach with some fun warm-up games, followed by practise on the beach. Once everyone is warmed up and excited, we head into the water together for an hour of fun in the waves. Caring for our oceans is an important theme in our lessons too, growing our tribe of young ocean guardians.
